Shooting at Howe Park Sends 4 Shot in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade Neighborhood

Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are working a violent incident that broke out Saturday night April 18 at Howe Community Park while Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were breaking up a large unsanctioned party of hundreds of attendees.

Background

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were first called to the park on Howe Avenue just after half past six Howe Community Park shooting 2026 in the evening after learning of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Not long after, a follow-up call was made about an alleged brawl taking place inside the park.

An overhead unit scanned the area from the air but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Nevertheless, it was evident that a massive group had come together at the location without any permit or approval.

The Dispersal and Shooting

Officers set about removing people from the park by forming a perimeter and making announcements directing the assembled crowd to disperse at once. About 15 minutes were allowed for the crowd to leave.

Just as the crowd began to move that 20 to 25 gunshots were discharged. Gunfire caused mass panic. Officers wasted no time in searching for victims.

Four Gunshot Victims

In total, four gunshot victims were confirmed as gunshot victims. The victims — a group of one female and three male victims each apparently in their twenties — were airlifted or driven to local Sacramento hospitals. Doctors and nurses reported that two victims were in serious condition, one sustained moderate wounds, and one victim's wounds were minor. Fortunately, each of the four victims was stable.

Metro Fire Sacramento provided support and helped triage those who had been shot on location.

What Investigators Found

The bulk of the shooting seemed to have unfolded adjacent to the Cottage Way side of the park close to the Home Depot store at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Crime scene investigators recovered extra shell casings on the Cottage Way roadway. Bullet damage were discovered in the wrought iron fence alongside the Home Depot store. These findings suggested that at least one shooter had been aiming south from along Cottage Way aimed at the Home Depot store. The store itself was temporarily locked down while the scene was active. Crime scene technicians and detectives kept processing evidence for hours.

Suspect Vehicle Located

Reports confirmed through scanner monitoring showed that a Kia connected to the shooting was intercepted in an area within Solano County. Four people were detained. Sacramento law enforcement were en route to collect those detained to collect the individuals for processing in Sacramento County. Video evidence revealed that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
